Crane Operator Licensing 

ATTENTION ALL CRANE OPERATORS!
Effective June 1st, 2005
All mobile and tower crane operators in California must be "CCO" certified.

This includes operators of:

• All mobile crane types with a maximum rated load capacity of 15,000 pounds or greater.
• All mobile crane types with an overall boom length of 25 feet or greater.
• Tower cranes.

To achieve "CCO" certification operators must:

• Have a current DOT Medical Examiner Certificate and pass a substance abuse test
• Pass a general knowledge written examination
• Pass, at least one advanced written exam for the crane type he/she will operate.
• Pass a practical examination for each crane type he/she will operate.
